ADS Social Group

Having a fulfilling social life is incredibly important and ADS helps provide social opportunities for our adult members with Down’s syndrome to come together, form friendships and have lots of fun.

The group is for our members aged 18 and over and meets weekly, usually on a Friday evening from 7:30 – 9:30pm. Activities and venues are chosen by members of the group and so are held in various locations across South Bucks.

ADS is supported by two group leaders along with parents, siblings and trustees.

ADS also welcomes parents and carers and gives them a chance to meet up informally for a chat.

What does the group do?

Examples of the kinds of evenings the ADS Group enjoys are:

  • Bowling
  • Meals out
  • Mini golf
  • Discos
  • Craft evenings
  • Drumming
  • Cinema and theatre trips
  • Swimming
  • Concerts
  • Dancing and music therapy

During the pandemic, ADS moved to Zoom and meet on the first Friday evening of the month with activities including Bingo, cookery, quizzes and more.

Every year, the ADS group enjoys a trip away, usually a weekend city break which have included Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin and Edinburgh.

Cost: Some sessions are free and others may have a cost e.g. bowling. Costs will be communicated before an activity.

The weekend trips are subsidised by SBDSG with the rest of the cost being self-funded.
